Reader’s Projects | Shaun Lafferty’s A Model

I would like to inquire about submitting my chopped, channeled, and metal finished 1930 Ford Model A Coupe for inclusion in Fuel. Even though our shop is state-side I really think this car would fit perfectly in your magazine and we would be very honored to have our car published internationally.

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Model A – this car was entirely hand-fabricated by my Father and me at our shop, Ridge Park Speed, in Louisville, Kentucky. It features a unique dual-cowl steering set-up that actually uses a quick ratio rack and pinion hidden underneath the cowl to steer the front wheels. In the rear we have built a trick cantilever coil-over shock set-up along with a 9” Ford differential that we have modified to resemble a quick-change differential.

We have a 355 cubic inch Chevy engine in it for power (we are drag racers as well – so this motor is pretty stout). We fabricated a set of lakes style headers for the engine and it literally draws a crowd every time we start it.

My Father has been a machinist for 40 years and even made the cowl ornament for the car which looks like a miniature micrometer.

Thanks
Shaun Lafferty

Hi Kirby - Shaun Lafferty here. The wheels are vintage ’36 Chevrolet Artillery Wheels.
